The classic smoky tea from China, (Tarry) Lapsang Souchong is well known all around the world for its unique taste and aroma. Its very bold taste is often compared to the taste of the cigar and smoked food.
Lapsang Souchong gets its smoky taste from the pine wood smoke. This unique way of "scenting" the tea makes a very different Lapsang Souchong to the more modernised "flavoured" version which is often sold at a lower price under the same name.
Tarry in French means "smoked"; Lapsang is the name of the origin of the tea in China and Souchong is the name of the particular tea tree (Camellia Sinensis) sub-species. If you like strong smoky tea such as Russian Caravan, Keemun and Gunpowder, then this is the tea for you!

Buying tip for true Lapsang Souchong -
There is less and less true Lapsang Souchong on the market due to the labour intensive process involved to make this tea. Many new versions are flavoured and taste a bit odd.
True Lapsang souchong is SUPER SMOKY in dried and brewed form.
If you like Russian Caravan, this is the super smoky version of this black tea.

Quality ☕️
Sipping from my fine china cup of Lapsang Souchong, bought back many memories of drinking Twinings Lapsang Souchong back in the 1970’s…only BETTER. Fresher, more lightly smoked with a satisfying aftertaste. A very pleasing brew.
Lapsang Souchong order
Love the tea, and delivery was quick and easy, will definitely use again.
Smoke in a cup
I've been ordering this tea for (I think) about 8 years. My morning can't start without at least 2 cups. My adult children steal sandwich bags of it when they visit, when they were younger it was known as "bacon tea". It's the best Lapsang Souchong I've found, and I searched for years.
