How to explain the benefits of drinking tea?

As a martial artist there comes a time when I realise that the concept of Tea Time equals Me Time can be just too high brow for most people. And for those that get it, it is like preaching to the choir.

So now, I am wondering how to explain the benefits of taking time out to drink tea in this modern hectic world?

How to explain it WITHOUT reverting to the usual topics of:

  1. How many kinds of tea are there?
  2. How do you brew tea?
  3. Where does tea come from?
  4. What is in tea?
  5. What are the 10 typical health benefits of tea?
  6. Where can I find a teahouse or tea shop near me?
  7. What is the history of tea?

All these things are great to know and study. But they do not make a good cup of tea. A good cup of tea is what makes a good cup of tea. It is in the experience of making it and then drinking it, that a person finds Tea Time equals Me Time.

This is the same with martial arts. We need to experience it to be it. Once we are it, we start to live martial arts. And by living it we stop practicing because our whole life is the way of martial arts. Everything becomes it and we just "do".

This seems so simple to me but I can already see that these words have become too high brow again. So please. Just enjoy your Tea Time equals Me Time and maybe, just maybe, some of this will make sense.

If not, then you still have a long way to go. Just remember now and then to stop along the way and enjoy a bit of refreshing tea.
